Silver Linings   (first volume of 'The Winterne Series)

At fourteen years old, Sam Johnson has a fairly peaceful way of life; he has the company of life-long friends and lives in a pleasant house on the outskirts of Nottingham. He even finds school hassle-free, usually. In fact, there is only one thing that spoils Sam’s life; for the last five months his father has been working in South Africa and Sam misses him, a lot. Thankfully with Christmas in a few weeks, Steve Johnson is due to come home for the holidays. But an unkind twist of fate changes Sam’s life, literally overnight. He has to leave his comfortable surroundings and friends behind, and move to a quiet country village, to stay with an aunt he hardly knows, and an uncle he has never met before. Within a very short time Sam discovers life in the picturesque village hides a darker side and his uncle has a secret. Over the next few weeks Sam makes both enemies and friends, and he discovers childhood fantasies can turn into reality.

Julie originally released her Sam Johnson trilogy under the pen-name 'Karen Wright' while keeping her head well below the parapet after leaving an abusive husband.  Julie and her two children, Rachel and Greg  'disapeared' via the 'Women's Aid' organisation, change their family surname and was happy to stay that way, especially as the Courts gave him no access to their children.  On discovering her ex-husband had passed away Julie decided to re-edit and update her books and use her own surname.  However, as there are so many Julies, she decided that, to be a little different, she would use 'Jae' as her pen-name.  She is delighted and proud to finally be able to use her second husband, David's, family name on her books.

Biography

Julie (Jae) was born in West London but spent most of her childhood in Dorset where a visit to Wookey Hole caves sparked her interest in the myths of Mendip Hills and an English Literature teacher encouraged Jae in her first attempts at writing. Later, returning to the West Country - this time Somerset, near Glastonbury and Wells - she again fell in love with the area and the thread of a story was born.
Later, Jae met and married her second husband, David, and lived in Dumfries for six years before moving again, to Nottingham this time,  where the family have lived ever since. Jae has two adult children, Rachel and Greg and two grandchildren, Erin and Finn.
Originally written in 2005, 'Silver Linings' under the pen-name of Karen Wright, Jae has now updated and re-edited the book and it has been re-released by New Generation Publishing; it is also available in Kindle format for the first time. 'Silver Linings' is the first volume of 'The Winterne Series' and will soon be followed by sequels 'Queen of Diamonds' and 'Fool's Gold' - also to be published by New Generation Publishing and as Kindle versions.  Jae is also in the process of writing a fourth book to accompany this series 'Avaroc's Return'.

'Queen of Diamonds' (second volume in 'The Winterne Series')

Sam Johnson's first weeks in Winterne, just before Christmas were exciting, dangerous and magical. Four months later, he is settled and has made friends. Now all he wants is a quiet life to prepare for GCSE's. But knowing some of Sam's new friends, how likely is that? Jonah Atkins, is now a reformed character since Sam saved his life during a cave-in, and the boys form an unlikely friendship. Harriet Atkins, Jonah's mother, deeply regretting everything Sam and his friend, Jenny, have suffered at the hands of the Atkins family, invites them both to choose a reward from a range of gifts. Fate, again intervenes when their choices bring them renewed danger and Sam, Jenny and Jonah find themselves involved in someone's scheme to find hidden diamonds. Ghosts disappearing into bedrooms walls and mysterious figures in the forest are all part of this dangerous puzzle. Once again, Sam needs the assistance of Charlie and his extraordinary friends, including the local witch, in the second instalment of the Winterne trilogy.
